EB Games Australia recalling Mercenaries from sale over save file debacle?

EB not happy with Resident Evil save file situation, or something more?

We haven’t even had chance to report on this yet here at Vooks, but in-brief: Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D does not allow you to reset your save file. Speculation suggests that this is an effort by Capcom to kill preowned sales on the game. The move has been met with wide criticism and it looks like EB Games may be among those critics in Australia.

According to our sources, EB is set to ’recall’ the game from sale tomorrow (ironically the game isn’t meant to be out yet). Our sources say that this is due to the game not having the ability to be started afresh, meaning that reselling the game is fruitless: any game bought would instantly and forever be ’preowned’ in a more noticeable sense than usual. In Australia, EB Games has a policy which provides that you can bring the game back as new, within a 7 day period. This would be impossible with Mercenaries. We believe a recall means EB are removing the game from sale from their stores; if you bought one already, you’re safe.

We have another thought on this as well. This recall could simply be an excuse to pull the game back from sale until the 30th: EB did break the street date. However, if the issue pertains to the save file and other retailers follow suit, it may be very hard for Capcom to find a market for the game.
