EAs new NHL Slapshot comes with dubious new Wii-remote accessory

The latest kid-friendly hockey game from EA Sports comes with a plastic peripheral that you can also use to harpoon and slaughter minke whales

Calling on the talents of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky to promote the new game, EA Sports will tomorrow be announcing NHL Slapshot, a game that requires players to affix their Wii Remotes and Nunchuks into a plastic attachment in order to play. Yup, looking like a retard is no longer optional with Slapshot, as the game’s control scheme discards MotionPlus in favour of a system that responds to both the motion sensors in the Wii Remote and Nunchuk.

The game will focus on recreating players actual hockey-stick motions in-game, and will aim to help kids develop real-world hockey skills such as when to take a slap shot. You’ll be able to create an in-game avatar of yourself with an age range of 12 to 40 years. Who knows? Maybe the game will actually emulate ice hockey moves realistically, but no-one can deny the sheer weapon-like looks of the hockey-stick attachment.
