EA to use Dead Space: Extraction as "test" for mature Wii games

European VP explains that EA believes multi-console owners tend to buy mature games on HD consoles rather than the Wii

We all know that sometimes great, more mature games dont always sell that well on the Wii compared to the HD consoles. Even the fairly high selling Call of Duty World at War on Wii, which sold over 1 million copies, pales in comparison to the close to 6 million sales of the Xbox 360 version. Dr. Jens Uwe Intat, EAs European VP, explained in a recent interview at gamescom what EA believes believes the cause might be, and how they will be testing it with the upcoming Dead Space: Extraction:

"One of the explanations we have is that theres a lot of double ownership," said Dr. Jens Uwe Intat. "So people having a Wii and a 360 and/or PS3. Theyre really playing different types of games on those two machines, and historically up to know we assume those people will have played the more mature content on the more high-tech machine. Dead Space: Extraction is going to be a very nice test of that hypothesis, because were really building a game where the Wii version is very different to the Dead Space game on 360 and PS3, and well actually see whether we can reach more people with a) a great game and b) interesting content. If thats not going to work, then obviously the whole proposal from our point of view at least of more mature games on the Wii just does not work."

I suppose we should all be hoping that Extraction sells well, then, for EAs continued support for the Wii in this area. Do you think a Wii version of a mature multi-platform game has to be different to be successful? Are you planning on picking up the game when it launches here on October 1?
