The Need for Speed series is gettig a revamp, according to reports, and a well needed one after the reaction to Need For Speed: Undercorver. The game will have three iterations; Need For Speed Shift, which will be available for PS3, X360, PC and PSP. Need For Speed Nitro will be available for the Wii and Nintendo DS, while Need For Speed: World Online will be designed specifically for the Asian PC market, before making a worldwide release later. More inside While “”Shift”” will be more of a simulator in the vein of GRiD, the Wii and DS version (Nitro) will be more arcade like, with the developers re-emphasising the fact that Nitro will “”in no way resemble”” anything the series has done before.

Need for Speed: Nitro is being developed by EA Montreal, and will be a fast and fun arcade racer with vibrant and eye-catching visuals. EA has told Eurogamer that the game will not be a Mario Kart clone (in case you were worried) as Nintendo already does an excellent job with that. Continuing, “”Instead, we are evolving the arcade racer with a fresh and unique visual style that is very Need for Speed. The game will be rich and deep and will appeal to experienced arcade racers as well as casual players.”” Says EA marketing boss Keith Munro.

Now is EA knowing that gamers are least likely to pickup a normal version of Need for Speed on the Wii and changing the game to suit the market, or leaving the Wii and DS with scrappy seconds? Wed have hoped EA would have learnt by now and were hoping that the former is the case rather than the latter.
