Nintendo’s Figurine Platform finally has a real name. Welcome, Amiibo (or amiibo as Nintendo like to put it).
amiibo is the new name for the collection of interactive figures that Nintendo will sell before the end of the year that work with upcoming video games. We knew Super Smash Bros. for Wii U was one of them and today has revealed that Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Yoshi’s Woolly World will also support the figures.
In Super Smash Bros. you’ll be able battle alongside or against your amiibo characters, leveling them up in the process. You’ll be able to then bring them to a friend who has a Wii U and the game to show off how you’ve trained and customized their characters. Nintendo hasn’t revealed how the other games will interact with the figures just yet.
As previously revealed Nintendo will also bring out an adapter next year to use the amiibo figures on the Nintendo 3DS. A wide range of figures will be available to start with and more will be announced soon.
We’ll hit up Nintendo Australia tomorrow for pricing details but they should be around $10 each.
See how much you did, or didn't play things.
