E3 2014: New IP Splatoon brings paintball shooting action to Wii U in 2015
A new IP was revealed on tonight’s Nintendo Digital Event at E3 with Splatoon, a 4v4 paintball arena team based shooter made exclusively for the Wii U.
Using paint guns, teams of players aim can cover the arena with their team’s paint which leads to victory and also gives the entire team tactical advantages.
Players can transform between a human player and a squid, with each form offering different strategies and advantages for the player and their team mates.
In squid form, players can travel quickly through their own team’s paint to traverse the battlefield, while in human form players can shoot other players and spread their paint for squid team mates to travel through.
Players can also use the GamePad to gain a tactical advantage and see how their team is going in covering the map with their team’s paint.
Splatoon employs an incredibly stylish visual style, with brightly coloured scenery and characters and squids.
Splatoon is scheduled to arrive on Wii U in 2015.
I really believe this could become an eSport title…there’s literally NOTHING that’s even close to this. And while destroying your opponents is important, territory gains are the main objective, not to mention all the mind games you can play with your opponents and hurting their own strategies.
To be honest, I’d say this & the upcoming Zelda were the standouts for Nintendo’s E3 this year. Even better than Xenoblade Cross (which I’ve been hyped about for quite awhile).
I agree, this game looks pretty great, as much as it’d be fun to play with friends I’m guessing most of the multiplayer will be online ?
This stole the show for me. A shooter for all ages with truly innovative mechanics. Those three stoners are to be commended.
That last sentence, LMFAO. But seriously, couldn’t agree more.
