It turns out the leaked Mario Maker is indeed a real Wii U game, as it was revealed during Nintendo’s E3 Digital Event.
The game allows you to drag Mario enemies and level elements around on the touch screen, and combine them into your very own Mario levels. The GamePad touch screen will allow you to drag, resize, and interact with each element you place into the game.
Some weird and exciting level concepts were shown, featuring things like moving pyramids of Koopa Troopas, and bouncing shells through the level with springboards in order to take out aerial enemies. A tall, thin Super Mushrom was shown that makes Mario tall and thin, meaning that we might be able to edit properties of familiar items to change up the gameplay.
The game features two graphical styles- the original sprites from the NES Super Mario games, and the 3D models from the New Super Mario Bros. series. Players can switch between the two graphical styles when creating and playing custom levels.
Mario Maker will release in 2015 for Wii U, stay tuned for more info when it comes.
