E3 2012: Virtual Console games can transfer from Wii to Wii U
Nintendo of America has confirmed to ABC News that you can transfer your Wii Virtual Console purchases from your Wii to your shiny new Wii U.
Nintendo America’s Scott Moffit told ABC News that purchases will transfer across and while there will be some ‘restructuring’ to get them as the Wii U has multiple system accounts, your thousands of dollars of purchases on the Wii are safe. Well I have at least that much, I’m sure many others do too. We’re going to assume that Nintendo means WiiWare games with this as well.
The Wii U GamePad should have enough buttons on it as well so you don’t have to hang onto the Classic Controller if you don’t want to. Hopefully Virtual Console games can be played off the gamepad as well.
Update: Nintendo has confirmed in a Q&A held this morning that “We are readying the system to be able to transfer saves and everything you’ve bought.”. Great news!
Best news out of everything so far, IMO
I wish they did this with the 3DS too.
um… they did. I transferred my all my dsi downloads onto my new 3DS without a hitch (along with all my photos. You need to download the Transfer Tool on your DSi and then follow the prompts. easy really.
I meant considering we have the virtual console on 3DS as well we’d be able to transfer at least the nes and snes games we have already bought on the wii to the 3DS, much like the way you can transfer PS1 games from a PS3 to a PSP.
Hooray! Announce this in the press briefing and I would have been much more enthusiastic 😀
