Hidden away in an interview with GameTrailers, Activision’s Eric Hirshberg has revealed that Skylanders Giants will be coming to the Wii U.
“That franchise is just such a great fit for the Nintendo brand. I’m really excited for where they are taking the Wii U and the hardware,” Hirshberg said.
While the Wii U GamePad comes with NFC technology, Skylanders actually uses its “cousin” technology RFID. The Wii U version of Skylanders is then unlikely to be able to use the inbuilt wireless technology. Not that it would work that well as the console versions of Skylanders require constant connection to the figures to work.
It’s possible the Wii U version of Skylanders Giants will be out alongside the Wii and 3DS later this year, but no date has been announced.
