E3 2012: Nintendo wants you to SiNG with your Wii U

The announcements just keep rolling with Nintendo announcing yet another Wii U project that they are developing, tentatively named SiNG. Developed by FreeStyleGames, reknown for their magnificent work on the DJ Hero series, SiNG allows friends to gather around their TV to embarrass themselves (but of course, have fun in the process).

While we don’t know much, we were treated to a trailer featuring a hideously decorated room and an equally vile song, Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”. Essentially, the idea behind SiNG is to enhance the social experience of karaoke – your lyrics for the song you’re singing are displayed on the Wii U Gamepad, so you won’t have to face the TV and can instead face your friends and dance or “get involved” with them as you perform. The game also allows other secondary players to dance along to songs, or clap and potentially invite others to join in and sing with you.

More interestingly, the trailer may or may not have confirmed a Wii U friendly wireless microphone peripheral which has easily been one of the most requested peripherals from the Wii’s casual audience.

While SiNG is a working title, the concept seems pretty nailed down and we’re interested to see where it goes. It could be fun when we consider the developer’s pedigree, but we acknowledged it’s really not going to be for everyone.

No date or release window has been announced for SiNG as of yet, but after watching our embedded trailer below, what do you think of SiNG?
