E3 2012: New Super Mario Bros. 2 goes for gold with new trailer

But we're not really sure why or how.

While the Wii U got most of the attention at Nintendo’s press conference for E3 2012, New Super Mario Bros. 2, an upcoming 3DS title was also given a quick showing.

While gameplay details are currently quite scarce, the game appears to be delving into Mario’s obsession with coins, and turning everything gold! An abundance of coins can be seen in the trailer shown below as well as new mysterious Gold Koopa, Gold Power-Ups and of course MORE GOLD COINS!

New Super Mario Bros. 2 is currently due for release in the Americas on August 19th 2012 and in a first for the 3DS, both at retail as a physical copy and via the eShop as a digital copy.
