E3 2012: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Features Co-Op for Main Game
During Nintendo’s 3DS Software Showcase this morning, Nintendo revealed a few new nuggets of information about the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. 2. The main feature demoed and revealed was the the main ‘single player’ portion of the game is able to be played with a friend co-operatively.
Because of the system’s small screen size, the game will restrict both Mario and Luigi to as small as space as possible with the camera tied to the player who is in front. If you slow down too much you get put into a bubble which you buddy must break you out of.
The second mode revealed uses StreetPass. Called Gold Rush, you play through three levels and try to collect as many coins as possible. The stages change however with coins littering the stage and 1-UP mushrooms replaced with golden mushrooms worth 50 coins. You’ll have to be fast too as you’ll want the extra points from the time remaining.
Once you’ve done these challenges the next time you StreetPass someone you’ll swap challenges and try and beat their score.
New Super Mario Bros has a US release date of August 19th.
