E3 2012: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate detailed, new trailer

Mirror, mirror on the wall - who's the fairest one of all? (Hint: It's this one)

Previously announced in Nintendo Power, we haven’t had a lot to go on with the game that will apparently bridge Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and it’s upcoming sequel.

Titled Mirror of Fate, the game takes place 25 years after the events of Lords of Shadow, and reveals the story of Gabriel’s (the protagonist of the first game) descendents as each of the battle their own destinies to uncover their true and shocking fate (it’ll make sense if you play the original game, trust us).

While we won’t go into too many details just in case you haven’t played the first game, Trevor Belmont, a knight of the Brotherhood of Light has headed out to avenge the death of his own mother against Dracula, who has also declared war on the brotherhood. We can’t really go into much more without ruining things for you. But perhaps steer clear of the trailers and such if you have still yet played Lords of Shadow and want to be genuinely surprised.

Mirror of Fate will boast multiple characters (including legendary characters Simon and Trevor Belmont) played at varying times throughout history, each of whom possess unique skills that are passed down through the ancestry. On top of this, the developers are promising huge and massive boss battles that will literally require crawling and clmbing to conquer. Think Shadow of the Colossus but better.

And finally, that little detail everyone is no doubt worried about – Mirror of Fate will employ a combination of full 3D gameplay scenarios as well as classic old-school Castlevania side scrolling ones.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate does not yet have a set release date but it will be coming this year exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS. Screenshots and trailers are below, but they may contain spoilers for the first game so be warned!
