E3 2011: Smash Bros. coming to Wii U and 3DS
For the first time the series will be on a portable, cross-play maybe
Nintendo has announced the big title everyone was hoping for. And for not just one platform, but two.
During Nintendo’s E3 press conference it was revealed that Smash Bros. mastermind Masahiro Sakurai was wrapping up work on Kid Icarus: Uprising and turning his sights to a new Smash Bros. title for both the Wii U and 3DS.
No information about the games was revealed other than some vague notion that the two titles would work together in some way. Whether you can play against someone on the Wii U using your 3DS or not remains to be seen, but it’s certainly an exciting idea.
Smash Bros. 3DS (working title) marks the first time the series will be released on a portable system. The series is generally associated with big screens and elbowing the person next to you on the couch as he (or she) hurls your battered body off the stage and into the abyss. It remains to be seen what the experience will be like in a portable form.
