E3 2010: The sun sets over LA as the most memorable E3 in years wraps up
As the dust settles on the LA convention centre, there remains only Nintendo and a bunch of pretenders
E3 is over. The booths are closed and the small army of poorly-fed developers and journalists have been escorted from the premises. This year was a sensational year for the industry as a whole yet Nintendo has emerged as the strongest shower of the last three days. Without a doubt, the 3DS is the darling of the show, attracting the longest lines and receiving nothing but positive buzz from everyone I talked to on the show floor. Not only is the device a spectacle to behold, but the software support is just amazing. Attendees were treated to gameplay, tech demos and 3D video trailers viewable on 3DS for an assortment of titles including Paper Mario, Star Fox 64, Animal Crossing, Kid Icarus: Uprising and the mind-blowing double punch of Metal Gear Solid 3DS: The Naked Sample, and Capcom’s Resident Evil: Revelations.
Say hello to your new master
Not only did Nintendo generate more buzz with the 3DS than with anything at E3, they also had one of the best line-ups of Wii games in the console’s three and a half years on the market. The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword led the pack ahead of an already formidable armada of titles including Metroid: Other M, Mario Sports Mix, Disney Epic Mickey, GoldenEye, Donkey Kong Country Returns and the absolutely gorgeous Kirby’s Epic Yarn. Behind the 3DS, the new Wii Zelda game had the second longest line at the show and the response from gamers has been nothing short of ecstatic.
Big titles and epic crowds – Nintendo owned the show in 2010
Nintendo are to be commended for the exceptional press event they held on Tuesday morning. There was oodles of content and the delivery from Reggie, Miyamoto and Iwata was exciting and right to the point, if somewhat tarnished by the technical difficulties that afflicted The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword showing. For the Vooks news crew, we’re delighted to have kept you up to date with our up-to-the-minute coverage of the three days with live blogging and updates from the show floor.
Reggie delivers the goods.
Its been a blast keeping you updated over the week, but the gaming has yet to begin. Perhaps the best news is that of all the games announced, we can expect to have every single one of them on shelves within 12 months. We might be tired, but stick with us in coming days as we deliver to you our impressions of all the great titles played on the show floor.
With so many new games announced, we reckon we’ll still be flat out playing them all before next year!
