Its just a tech demo at this stage, but could it be a part of something more?

Tech demo’s are everywhere at E3, and while they might not be indicative of a final game this one at least looks promising. Nintendo has on it’s show floor pixel perfect NES and SNES games on the 3DS. Naturally they’re in full 3D.

According to IGN the sprites and backgrounds have been pulled forward to give the illusion of 3D depth. The games available to sample include Tennis, Super Mario Bros, Metroid, Musasame, Punch-Out!!, Excitebike, NES Open Golf, Twin Bee, Super Mario World, Kirby’s Adventure, Mega Man 2, Castlevania, Urban Champ, Kid Icarus, Yoshi’s Island, and Smash Ping Pong.

Oh and of course if you don’t like it you can switch off the 3D effect with the slider and play them the normal way.

Virtual Handheld Console finally? Let’s hope!
