Demonstrating the snappy action between sword-wielding and gun-slinging gameplay, Vanderberghe described the combat as “a physically engaging activity- It’s like a first person brawler”. The game was shown off in all its 60 frames-per-second glory as the centrepiece offering in Ubisoft’s lineup of Wii games.
Vanderberghe compared the sequel to it’s predecessor, claiming the development team had learnt a lot about getting the most out of the Wii over the past few years, and describing the new visual style as “taking realism and blending it with a graphic novel kind of approach.” The first level of the game was playable, with Vanderberghe leading audiences through a range of combat styles against different enemies and boss types. The improved responsiveness of MotionPlus now allows for accurate on-screen replications of the players actions, with the force of the sword swinging being closely recreated in-game.
Head of Ubisoft Yves Guillemot was equally as proud of the game, declaring that “Red Steel 2 will go even further, letting players fully experience the fight.”
The presentation of the game was capped off with the announcement that it will be bundled with the new MotionPlus peripheral- a very smart collaboration by Nintendo and Ubisoft that will get the new add-on into a heap of homes early in it’s lifespan.
