Dreambox describe their first game as an exploratory action adventure game. Players assume control of Robox – a mechanical probe sent to a mysterious planet to investigate the mystery behind the disappearance of previous probes sent to the region.
We’re expecting a very ‘Metroidvania’ like style of gameplay, as Robox needs to recover his lost skills and accessories after arriving on the planet. My heart flutters at the mention of the phrases ‘Metroid’ and ‘2D platformer’ so the game has already done plenty to grab my attention, not to mention the divine hand-painted art style of the alien environments Robox must explore throughout his adventure. Players control Robox by switching between pointer controls or holding the Wii-remote horizontally to use the d-pad.
With a bright snappy presentation and an inventive combination of exploration and puzzle-solving, Robox just may be the next great 2D adventure game in the WiiWare catalogue’s growing ensemble of modern classics such as Lost Winds and NyxQuest.
