You asked for it, and here it is. Dragon Quest XI finally has a release window for the West.

Nintendo announced during this morning’s Direct that Dragon Age XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition will be coming to the Switch in US Fall — that’s Spring, for us south of the equator.

The latest entry in the Dragon Quest series launched on the 3DS and PS4 in Japan in 2017, and PS4 and PC in the West late last year. It features a tonne of new features found only in the Switch version, including fully orchestrated music (that can be switched to non-orchestrated at any time), new character-specific stories, an option for increased battle speed, and a cute 16-bit mode that totally switches up the gameplay and visuals.

You can watch the full announcement trailer below.

That swap-to-16-bit-retro-style-from-3D-world thing is exactly what I was theorising might be Pokemon Gen 8’s gimmick, docked mode being an RPG style world with handheld mode being a Gameboy style presentation.
