Dragon Quest XI announced for western release, Switch version “a long way to go until its release.”
Despite being one of the very first NX Switch games announced, it looks like we’ll be waiting a long time for the Switch version of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.
The game was announced tonight for release on the PlayStation 4 and Steam, but an announcement regarding the Switch version was only confirmed later. Square Enix had this to say;
“We are also developing the Switch version for Europe and North America, but development is expected to take a long time from a technological standpoint as well, so we still have a long way to go until its release.”
And what about the Nintendo 3DS version? It doesn’t look like its getting released here with Square Enix saying;
“Our aim with Dragon Quest XI and the Dragon Quest brand is to grow the audience in the West. From a business point of view, it made strategic sense to release the 3DS version in Japan in 2017. For the West in 2018, it made the most sense to focus on the PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam) platforms.”
Well, at least it’ll come to the Switch one day.

Take your time Square Enix, we can wait. As long as it’s coming to the west
Oooo…
Usually I’m very patient and also prefer the idea of a long JRPG having potential portability but this is one game I’m not sure I’ll be able to put off come September.
