Dragon Quest VII remake to mark the debut of the series on Nintendo 3DS

A screen shot from JUMP! magazine reveals a 3DS remake of the PlayStation classic.

With the release of Dragon Quest X in Japan, the series is definitely gaining a solid foundation on Nintendo consoles. Developer Square Enix is now turning the franchise’s focus to Nintendo 3DS, with a remake of the original PlayStation iteration, Dragon Quest VII.

The game is currently only scheduled for a February 2013 release in Japan but given the series proliferation in the west in recent years, we should expect a localisation. This is particularly nice as this title never received a release in European territories (meaning we missed out). Games such as Dragon Quest IV, V and VI as well as Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Sky have all made it to our shores in recent times, so there is definitely reason for optimism. It would seem logical that this 3DS title will follow suit.
