The good doctors Brain Training has become the top selling game in the UK ever.

The Nintendo DS brain exercise game, which has proved incredibly popular with gamers and non-gamers alike, has reached 3 million units in sales to date in England since its 2006 release. The game is still a strong seller, despite its age, making seventh spot in a list of top-selling games for the last financial year, beating out plenty of high-profile 2009 games such as ‘Call of Duty: World at War’.

The sales figures, published by ELPSA’s GfK-ChartTrack service, has been cited as evidence of a marked shift in industry trends away from conventional gaming to more ‘casual’ experiences. ELPSA’s director general Michael Rawlinson remarked that "These figures are clear evidence that gaming is now mainstream in the UK…The demographic has changed, so it’s time we did away with the misperception(sic) that video games are merely the preserve of teenage boys shooting zombies. Innovation in the industry means the social and educational benefits of gaming are now enjoyed by players of both sexes and of all ages."
