When Bethesda announced that Doom was coming to Switch, everyone knew it would be restricted in some way, however it seems that Bethesda were aware of what the system can do and made a few choices to keep it as close to the other versions as possible. Speaking with Rolling Stone, a Bethesda rep has confirmed that the game will be locked to 30fps, rather than the 60fps found on other platforms.
“The game and rendering technology underlying Doom is extremely scalable. In bringing Doom to Switch, we targeted outstanding visuals at a solid 30 fps and by maintaining a consistent 30 fps, the experience remains consistently fluid and smooth. We’ve been thrilled with the feedback that Doom is among the very best looking and performing games on Switch.”
All reports from the hands on events that Bethesda held recently, seem to prove that the game does run without issue, when locked at the 30fps count. In addition to the locked frame rate, Bethesda have also confirmed that the game will run in 720p, in both docked and handheld modes, meaning you will get the same experience, no matter how you choose to play.
It has also been confirmed that those who choose to go the physical route with the game, will get the single player only on the cartridge and that the multiplayer component will require an 9gb download, due to the 16gb limit of the game cards.
