DOOM Eternal, id Software’s follow-up to the excellent 2016 reboot DOOM, has been delayed, and the news gets even worse for Switch fans.
Bethesda and id Software have announced that DOOM Eternal will be delayed to March 20, 2020 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with the Switch version set to be delayed even further. The Switch version of the game will now release “after the other platforms.” id says they’ll announce the exact date in the future. DOOM 64 will also be launching later than anticipated, also releasing on the 20th of March next year, though Switch owners won’t have to wait for that one. It will also be available as a preorder bonus for Eternal.
This comes as a stark contrast to what was announced just a few months ago at E3, where the Switch version of DOOM Eternal was said to be releasing day and date alongside the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions on November 22, 2019, a little over a month out from today. DOOM 64’s November release date was even more recent, with the news coming to light early last month. It had previously only been announced for Switch.
It’s currently unknown exactly why the game has been delayed further on Switch than other platforms, or when it will release. We’ll be sure to keep you up to date.
