Warren Spectors dark take on the world of Mickey Mouse is to be complemented by a pair of books

Of the two books, one is a novelisation for kids of the game’s story, the other is titled ‘Epic Mickey – It’s your Call’. The ‘It’s your Call’ book is likely to be a choose your own adventure type story, given the way the book’s blurb reads on Amazon.com:

"Become Mickey Mouse as he travels through the Cartoon Wasteland full of rejected and forgotten creations.   Battle fierce robots called “Beetleworx”, anamotronic blotlings, and Mickey’s older half brother, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit! Armed with a magical paintbrush, Mickey must stop the Phantom Blot who will stop at nothing to rule the Cartoon Wasteland, earn back his half-brother’s trust, and save the Cartoon Wasteland from total devastation! Are you up for the job?"

The other book is a simple re-telling of the Wii game’s main story, and is targetted towards younger children.

Epic Mickey is the latest project from visionary games designer Warren Spector – a figure more commonly associated with mature works like Deus Ex, Ultima, and the Thief games. The upcoming Wii game has a markedly darker tone than what gamers have come to expect from Disney, and will feature Mickey Mouse himself harnessing the power of a magical painbrush to bring a barren land back to life.

Epic Mickey – It’s your Call carries an October 12 release date, whereas the junior novelization won’t be available until November 23. Neither book will be available until well after the September 16 release date of the Wii game – an interesting sign that Disney may be looking to continue on the ‘Epic Mickey’ brand into a new franchise.
