Disney was meant to hold it’s Disney Infinity Direct NEXT Broadcast in the wee hours of the morning here in Australia, one problem – they geo-blocked the bastard. Clap clap.
Now that it’s all over and available to view anywhere we can talk about what they showed. The big focus was on the Marvel Battlegrounds. It’s out later this month along with a batch of new Marvel figures. There may or may not be another Captain America movie out the same time.
It’s a four player local multiplayer beat em up, don’t worry there will be some single-player but what exactly that entails remains to be seen. The Marvel Battlegrounds play-set comes with Captain America – The First Avenger (you know, so he looks like the one in the movie).
Along with the Captain, there is a range of new figures that are compatible with the game including Ant-Man, Black Panther, Vision and Black Suit Spider-Man. You can use Hulkbuster, Ultron and any of the already available figures as well. There’s also a new power disc set to change the Battlegrounds as well.
It wasn’t just Marvel that was talked about during the broacast either, three other play-sets are on the way with another Star Wars,Disney and a Pixar playset on the way. We’d wager that the Star Wars one will follow the story of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which is out this year. Alice In Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass and Finding Dory were also teased.
There’s some more standalone figures coming too as well, Nick and Judy from the upcoming Zootopia get a figure as does Baloo from The Jungle Book. The Baloo figure will be his classic animated appearence despite the release of the live action movie later in the year.
Expect to see more of these presentations through out the year, appears as if this whole ‘Nintendo Direct’ thing caught on doesn’t it?
