It might have been one of the worst kept secrets this year but it doesn’t make us any less excited about Disney Infinity 3.0. The game will get a huge range of new features and even has some new developers lending a hand in its development.

The folks at Avalanche Software are again at the helm but they also have Ninja Theory, Sumo Digital, Studio Gobo and United Front Games helping them out on different parts of the game. Sumo Digital, famous for the Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing series are working on the driving in the game.

Star Wars is the big star this year with not just one Play Sets but three. The first, The Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic is based on Episode I-III and features Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker figures in the starter set. Expect to see Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and Darth Maul show up in this one.

The second set, The Star Wars: Rise Against the Empire (Episodes IV-VI) takes place during the original trilogy and features Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, Han Solo, Chewbacca and Darth Vader of course. There’ll be X-Wing fighters and the Millennium Falcon to fly around in and feature Tatoonie, Hoth and Endor.

The third set is light on details, it’ll be based on the newest film and will be revealed more in-depth at a later time. Unlike last years’ Marvel set you’ll be able to use all the Star Wars characters in any of the Star Wars playsets.

The Toy Box is also getting a remodel this year with a new Hub that will categorise games into genres like platformer, racing and even farming simulation games. There’s also two new multiplayer Toy Box games included, Toy Box Takeover which features action-adventure gameplay and there’s kart racing in the Toy Box speedway.

This year you will also be able to buy the game by itself if you have the figure base from the previous two games. This will keep costs down, especially since there’s a ton of new characters this year to buy separately. The randomness of Power Disks has also been tweaked, there will be power disk packs separated by franchise. So if you’re only after Star Wars stuff, you won’t be getting any Marvel or Inside Out discs in there.

Even more Disney, Disney•Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars figures and Play Sets will be announced in the coming months.

Disney Infinity is out this Winter in Australia and the starter pack retails for $99.95 AUD/$119.95 NZD.
