Disney buys Marvel, has plans for its game licences
Disney has bought out comic giant Marvel is a $4bn US deal
A huge deal has been struck today with Disney buying comic giant Marvel in a 4 billion dollar deal which will see Disney own all the characters and licences of Marvel’s, such as Spiderman, X-Men, Iron Man, Captain America, the Fantastic Four and over 5000 more characters.
Games based on Marvel’s licences are also going to be eventually bought back by Disney says the company. "On the video game front, (Marvel) have some smart licensing agreements with some of the best video game manufacturers in the business. While we have been steadily moving in the direction of video game integration, we don’t rule out the blend of licensing and self-produced and distributed video games. As these licensing deals expire we have the luxury of considering what’s best for the company and the products." Says Lowell Singer, Disney’s senior vice president of investor relations. Disney in recent years has been bringing development of its own titles in house with Disney Interactive, but while it looks like they’ll take back the licences, it doesn’t mean they won’t still let third parties like Activision produce games for them.
Disney vs Marvel anyone?
