Discontinued amiibo could have second life in card form

"Marth is back! In pog form!"

In a recent interview, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto gave a few details on the future of discontinued amiibo, stating that long gone characters, along with any unlockable content they provide, could live on via NFC cards.

Nintendo have already discussed the possibility of having amiibo existing in forms other than figures, but this is the first we’ve heard of any plans to transition from figures to cards. The phrasing in the interview is a little on the ‘it’s just an idea’ side of things, but this means Nintendo are at least considering the idea. And of course, collectors are probably going to try and get a full set of cards down the track, too.

How’s your amiibo collection going? Would you be happy filling in the gaps with two dimensional counterparts? Shout out in the comments below!
