Digital codes in Switch physical copies hits peak crazy

Since the launch of the Switch there’s been multiple instances where a game is shipped on Switch cartridge, but you need to download the rest to play it. Then we’ve had compilations where one game is on the cartridge and the other is a download code.

There’s also been instances where the game is sold physically in stores, but there’s just a download code in it. However, nothing compares to what we’ve found out about now.

NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM Trilogy is coming to the Switch next month, as the name suggests it contains three games – none of them will be included in the package. You’ll have to download them all.

This one won’t be sold in airports anytime soon. Picture: EBGames.com.au

While it’s not the biggest download we’ve seen from a Switch game, the number is particularly funny because at just over 18gb, it only just didn’t fit on the smallest cartridge available. (16gb).

So instead of including a cartridge, with maybe two games on it and one to download – nope you’ve got to download them all.

The cherry on the top is that in Japan, the games are all on the one cartridge. We can’t hate on that too much, the Japanese version only contains Japanese. The European / Australian version contains French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian and English and thus the extra size.

But wouldn’t it be nice if Nintendo Switch cartridge prices were cheaper so this user-hostile practice wouldn’t happen?
