De Blob 2 information blow-out, trailer, box art
Well tickle me pink… and blue and red and GREEN, because our favourite paint-soaked hero is back with new abilities
THQ’s 2008 Wii game de Blob saw us embarking on a quest to re-animate the fictional place of Chroma City, and bring exuberance back to the oppressed, by splattering buildings, landmarks, and citizens with color. In de Blob 2, the evil Comrade Black is back and once again using his forces to desaturate and wreak havoc over the land.
As in the first game, Blob can absorb and even combine red, blue and yellow paint to restore colour to the new setting that is Prisma City. Not only that, but Blob can now also soak up a lead-like substance to transform into an annihilative wrecking ball to drive through enemies and stick onto magnetised surfaces. Gone are the wrist-aching motion controls that made Blob jump – Blob now bounds at the press of a button.
These open up a variety of 2D puzzle-driven platforming levels, and there is certainly no shortage of those here with 100 to splatter your way through. You’ll be stomping on enemies, flicking switches and levers, painting markers, riding elevators, rescuing friends and lots more in your journey to save the city.
De Blob 2 also introduces new enemy types along with standard Inky soldiers, such as Heavy Inkies (who have guns) and Elite Inkies (who have to be defeated in a certain way). Finally, if you were wondering, the music in this game is as addictive to listen as ever.

THQ has done its best to correct the mistakes of the original game by borrowing some gameplay mechanics from other fantastic titles, and we commend them for it. De Blob 2’s Australian Wii release date is February 24, the only thing about this game that should be in black and white.
