Be careful what ‘skins’ you put onto your Nintendo Switch and Joy-Cons

Not everyone is going to like the colours Nintendo come out with when a new console launches. This leads to many people ‘skinning’ their console in plastic and vinyl wrappers to change the appearance of the console or controllers.

The Switch is no different and many companies, Nintendo approved or not are offering skins for the system. However one skin company is actually recommending you don’t put their skins and wrappers on the Switch on the Joy-Con controllers. dbrand, a well known manufacturer of skins and wraps has posted on social media to say that in their experience and testing with the Switch they’re now cancelling their plans to support the system saying their skins at least, cause  damage to the system with feeling and flying issues.

“We purchased a retail unit (ten, in fact… just to make sure it wasn’t an isolated issue) and both the JoyCons and the Console are not compatible with vinyl wraps or any adhesive-backed skin of any kind.”

There’s another skin on the market, one that is actually in stores now and it’s PDP’s Legend of Zelda skin for both the system and the dock. They say however their skins are safe;

PDP say they worked with Nintendo and materials they use are fine. They do use different adhesives.

So at this point it’s probably just worth weighing up the how much you dislike the way the Switch looks and if you’re willing to damage it or not.
