Capcom has announced today that their multiplatform engine is heading to the Wii. Previously, the engine was only for use on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 (and also allowed easy porting to the PC). Games that have previously used the engine include the upcoming Lost Planet 2 and Resident Evil 5, the latter of which has had more "coming to Wii rumours" than anything out there.
Capcom is bringing the engine to Wii in order to reduce development costs and improve promotional efficiency, but what that comment means, well, well leave up to your interpretation. Sharing this engine for Wii development will allow Capcom to save one third on their development time for separate games and one fifth on development time.
Now prepare for all the rumours about Resident Evil 5 on Wii to reignite, Capcom hasnt mentioned at all in this press release or in fact that it is even on the MT Framework exactly – but it cant be anything else.
