Capcom speaks out about Wii development comments

Earlier this week Capcom Frances Directory General said the future for them wasnt in Wii, but maybe thats not so

In a very brief statement today, Capcom Europe has clarified it’s position on game development.

Further to comments made in a recent article on French website Gamekult, Capcom would like to confirm its commitment as a multi-platform developer and publisher of interactive software.

The Director General of Capcom France, Antoine Seux said earlier this week "Two years ago, there were still [hardcore] gamers on Wii, [but these have been] diverted from this console in favor of the new generation." and that "The Wii console is very much a family commitment [and] rates relatively low. So for us, Capcom, the future is the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Capcom feels that there are not enough ’hardcore gamers’ on the Wii anymore

In light of the poor sales of The Darkside Chronicles, Capcom seem unlikely to persue many more titles exclusively for the Wii.

Capcom, arguably one of the most prominent third party publishers on the Wii have announced that they feel the Wii market isn’t as a lucrative as they would like. Capcom, who have released some previous classics such as Resident Evil 4 and new Wii exclusive titles, such as Resident Evil – The Darkside Chronicles feel that there aren’t enough ’hardcore gamers’ using the console to warrant their efforts.

"[Hardcore games] are selling less and less on the console, [be it] MadWorld or Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop or House of the Dead: Overkill," says The Director General of Capcom France, Antoine Seux, "Two years ago, there were still [hardcore] gamers on Wii, [but these have been] diverted from this console in favor of the new generation."

In light of the poor sales of Resident Evil – The Darkside Chronicles, it seems that Capcom are planning to shift their focus elsewhere. "The Wii console is very much a family commitment [and] rates relatively low. So for us, Capcom, the future is the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360."

With Capcom, one of the leading publishers of more ’mature’ content on the Wii now somewhat out of the picture, the future for adult titles on the Wii certainly seems bleak.
