Buyers Guide: Where to pick up a SNES Mini in Australia today
The SNES Mini is out today in Australia and unlike the NES Mini you’re probably going to be able to buy one in stores!
All this week stores have revealed that they will have more SNES Mini consoles than they originally thought or they’ll more on the way soon. We’re hopeful that today won’t be a complete mess like the launch of the NES Mini was this time last year.
Each store has a different situation with their stock, some will have walk-in quantities and some will be taking preorders for the next batch. We’ve listed all the details we know about the different stores below.
Big W was one of the few stores to not take preorders for the SNES Mini at all. It stands to reason that they may be one of the stores with the most on launch day. Here’s a photo from their catalogue, if it’s in there then they must have some.
We haven’t had any communication from Big W, but they’re clearly anticipating a few people with some stores opening just for the SNES Mini for the first 15 minutes. Here’s a note from one store;
8am Update: Big W has the SNES Mini online as well if you want to avoid the stores.
haha wow – only nintendo fans can make a store inaccessible for everyone else for 15 minutes pic.twitter.com/Ol1VlnPCuG

Price: $119
EB Games took preorders for the SNES Mini over a period of a couple of months, but this week we learned that they’ll be more on the way to EB Games stores.
This new burst of stock may be in some stores today or you’ll be able to take a preorder for the next batch. Check with your local store to confirm.
Here’s our original story on this for the full rundown.
Price: $119.95
We’re unsure of any specific details about JB Hi-Fi. Like EB they took preorders for the system a while ago but haven’t said anything since.
While we wouldn’t rule it out, if you’re looking for a SNES Mini tomorrow JB might not be the first place to look, but you never know.
Price: $119
Target is only sending their allocation of SNES Mini consoles to a certain number of stores around the country. If it’s not on this list below then they’re not going to have it.
Because of the reduced number of stores they’re shipping to, in theory, each store should have more. Target would be one of our first picks if you’re looking for a console.
Here’s the list of stores with stock from Saturday;

Let us know how you go in the comments. Did your preorder come in, did you find any more stores with stock and was everyone behaved?
Just ordered one on big w online store, seems to have worked, yay. Thought I missed out on one, kids will love it. So many classic games from my childhood.
Just bought mine online from Big W – went to their site to double-check the store opening time, there’s a big ol’ picture right on the front page! Clicked, purchased, now I have to wait, but at least I don’t have to line up 🙂
Sadly, mine didn’t come yesterday. I’ll have to wait till Tuesday to get mine, as Monday is a public holiday in Brisbane. I wish I had the option of picking it from in-store, not delivery. 🙁
Target Bunbury has over 100 available as of 8:10.
Not including predorders. Steady flow of customers at the moment.
I should probably add in West Australia.
Just went to Target in Melbourne CBD, and they literally have hundreds. Spoke to the guy as he was unloading pallets and he mentioned they got way more stock than expected. Confirmed they were all units that could be picked up on the spot, as there was more in the back for preorders.
Picked mine up from EB in Southport without issue. I was in no hurry and thought I was a few mins past 9 but the guy was in the middle of opening the shutters when I walked in. I spotted a sick-as-tits Master Sword letter opener on a shelf on the way to the counter and bought that too.
I completed the sale only to turn around and see five people queued up behind me!
I pre-ordered one from jb hifi online back when first announced email saying shipped on Friday eta Tuesday wed. Long weekend in Sydney so wanted to play this weekend walked into jb castle hill they had loads in stock happy gaming
I preordered from harvey norman, but I went into the store on launch day to see if I could pick it up – most staff were not even aware of the SNES Classic.
And when someone did know about it, they said they may not have stock for a few weeks ?? Why take pre orders when you dont have stock?
I didnt trust their preorder so I ended up scrambling and finding one in EB games and picked it up from the store.
I had an EB pre-order, and to make sure I really didn’t miss out, I also have a Catch Of The Day order coming. So, now I have a spare.
Hopefully someone at work will like to purchase one for Christmas!?
Can you buy the controllers separately like with the NES edition?
Nah, it comes with two, negating the need to buy separately. But you never know your luck on eBay.
Costco in Melbourne Docklands have heaps. $114. Obviously you’ll need a membership card to visit.
So we didn’t get MyNintendo points with our consoles in NZ/Aus? I didn’t have any in my box. We got them for the NES Mini, and other places in the world (apparently) got some in their SNES Mini.
Why? :\
I got one yesterday (7th October.) I wasn’t looking. Saw the sign in JB Hifi at Morayfield shopping centre QLD. They had a few over a week after release. I am actually pleased with it. Quality is good. I play with gake scanlines and it looks/plays great.
