Criterion Games is back for another lap around the track with Burnout 2: Point of Impact. It’s time to get back into the drivers seat of whatever car you like, trash and crash it around the track and get rewarded for it.

Graphics

Burnout 2 isn’t the best looking game on the GameCube, nor is it the worst. It runs at a good speed so you barely notice anyway. The trade off for graphics for speed is worth it.

Sound

The games soundtrack is a real disappointment, there’s no licensed music and what is included is a little bland. Crazy Taxi had a great soundtrack, the tin-rock they’re going for just doesn’t work. Luckily the sound of crashing cars covers this up. Car noises are a bit weird as no matter what you’re driving they all kind of sound the same.

Gameplay

If you’re after a true racing simulator, Burnout games are not for you. Burnout is about smashing and crashing your way through the field. One mistake and you’ve exploded. There’s no need for a wheel here, it’s pure arcade gameplay.

Crash mode is the true spectacle in Burnout and in Burnout 2 things are back and better than ever. As before you’re goal is to destroy as much traffic in an intersection as possible. Your car will crash, spin, roll and crack through the traffic, the more you hit the more money you get. There’s nine levels to work there.

Buy the game if you’re an avid racing game fan.
