Make sure youre absolutely certain about the colour you want before buying a DSi

With the recent release of two new DSi colours, Pink and Metallic Blue, joining the Black and White models, choosing the colour of your new DSi can be a hassle.

If you want to keep your money away from the greedy eyes of Nintendo, kindly depicted here by Alice, you should know that purchases from the DSi Shop on one Nintendo DSi console are not transferable to another. So once you choose the colour of your DSi, you’re pretty much stuck with it.

Below is an extract from the Nintendo DSi Shop Service Agreement.

Please note that you may only play the downloaded Content on the Nintendo DSi System on which it was first downloaded; it is not possible to transfer the Content to another Nintendo DSi System.

There may be exceptions for extreme circumstances, such as when the original DSi is in an unplayable condition. We have gained knowledge that Nintendo have special kits that enable them to find out what has been downloaded to the DSi without having to turn the system on, and that in order for them to transfer from one system to another, they need both consoles in their possession.

Putting two and two together, any unscrupulous individual would realise that you could just damage your DSi intentionally if you decide you don’t like the colour after all. Although you might be eligible to have your purchases transferred, we do not advocate this behaviour.

We contacted Nintendo for comment but are yet to hear a response.
