Target’s big Toy Event event kicks off next week and there’s going to be some cool Nintendo Switch deals for hardware and games.
The big one is a Nintendo Switch bundle with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for $499. It’s first the time we’ve seen a Switch bundle with a game for under that $500 mark. You can pick from the Neon or Grey coloured console as well. There’s also cheaper pricing on a bunch of games, and we’ve already got price for Splatoon 2 (that’s not out until July 21st).
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Arms and Splatoon 2 will all be $64, Breath of the Wild is $74 and 1-2 Switch is $55. Pro Controllers and Joy-Cons also have a healthy discount.
The catalogue starts on June 29th.

I do wonder if the JoyCon pricing covers any pack, like the newly released Neon Yellow, or is it just the grey ones..
Target buyers opted not to purchase the neon yellow controllers. :/
Speaking from personal experience I can say that the glass screen protector seems too thick and also the edge does not seem to be smooth or beveled.
If that’s the case, then that would probably explain why the Splatoon-coloured Joy-Con aren’t (yet) coming to Australia. There probably weren’t enough retailers willing to allocate shelf space for it (which is strange considering that some are happy to stock the individual grey L and R Joy-Con).
A lot of retailers are looking at reducing SKU’s but I was informed that there is a chance they may get some at a later date but at this stage its a no. Retailers are at the edge of the end of financial year so once things stabilise then there may be an instance in which we may say an increase in stock or new items such as the splatoon-coloured Joy-Cons.
Sadly retailers don’t have a great deal of faith (or sense! that’s another story) in Nintendo as you and I do and therefore are limited to available floor space in stores. Its one thing for retailers to feel that way about the Wii-U but even the 3DS which is massively popular see’s no love.
The Nintendo Switch seems to be doing well and is trading on its own merits but retailers are definitely not doing it any favours by artificially limiting stock and buying some games and not others.
Its absolutely crucial that Nintendo gets as many games to the consumers through its retail channels and retailers consistently keep stock availability at a reasonable level at this stage as many consumers may be put off by the lack of games availability. Often customers are won and lost at the one point of sale so its not doing Nintendo any favours when retailers don’t even bother getting some titles or very little.
Target seems to be doing some good things but they are also guilty of the above whilst also perhaps selectively choosing not to purchase some games but I hope that is not a trend as I know they can do a lot better.
Bundles will absolutely help push sales for the switch but there is nothing to stop Target from tossing in a cheap third party screen protector or case.
I think it would be better bundle with arms than Mario kart cause it a wii-u game lol
Just got the console ordered from Kogan eBay for $410 so not for me, but pretty nice bundle considering rrp.
Stoked to see Splatoon 2 pricing is same as ARMS, gonna pick that up tomorrow from BigW if I can find one so I’ve got something to play when my Switch arrives 😀
That is a good bundle indeed, thanks Vooks! Nice to be in Australia where we’re mostly immune to this switch shortage that everyone else is talking about.
