Never doubt the power of the collective. Games Done Quick is a huge example of the power that people can have to help others, raising money for cancer research.

If you haven’t heard of it before, Games Done Quick is twice-yearly event that raises money for charity. Speedrunning games, which is exactly as it sounds and is “just” completing games as quickly as possible, has grown massively over the last few years and shows no sign of slowing down. Combined with the growth in video game streaming, the gamer’s have banded together to do good and entertain at the same time. Already there’s been some amazing highlights in the first day with a Sub-1-hour Splatoon Singleplayer run and a 25-minute Diddy Kong Racing race that ended in a dead heat – Frankly, it’s nothing short of amazing to watch the skill these guys and girls show.

For a quick highlight, I recommend the video below – a bizzare, crazy 16 Star Super Mario 64 Multiplayer (!!) Speedrun – to get an idea of the sort of stuff to expect!

I highly recommended watching some of the live stream if you can. Check out the schedule here – it adjusts to your local timezone, so you’ll always know how early you need to get up to see the run you want. I have no intention of sleeping for the next few days, so join me on twitter with the hashtag #AGDQ2016!

If you can’t catch it live, I’ll be doing a summary of the event when it’s wrapped up. Let us know below what you’re excited for! Have fun all, and dig deep for charity!
