We’re already bracing ourselves for an expensive Nintendo 3DS console, we hope it won’t happen but we’re prepared. Now the other shoe has fallen and it looks like 3DS games might be super expensive too, well one of them at least. We received an updated release list from Namco Bandai today, on it is Ridge Racer 3D.
Being a launch title, this is nothing odd. However, what was odd was the $79.95 price attached to it. That’s $10 more than the current DS pricing for games. Now, $10 isn’t that much and we doubt that this will be the retail price for every 3DS game out there, certain publishers – maybe the ones we’ve mentioned in this article – have previously tried to release games on the DS for this price as well.
But the worrying news doesn’t stop there, with retailer JB-Hifi currently showing an Ubisoft 3DS game, Asphalt 3D with a list price of $65 and that’s the price the retailer pays for it. This means even with heavy launch competition, finding a 3DS game under that price may be extremely hard. That or retailers will have to take a loss.
Of course we’re still two months away from launch, all these prices may just be placeholders, temporary, imaginary or just a bad sign of things to come.
So, who would pay $79.95 for Ridge Racer 3D? Or better yet, who’s willing to pay more for 3DS games?
From Mario to Zelda, to Splatoon to Donkey Kong. Everything on Nintendo Music.
Not long til Kong.
It's on, like you know.
