Nintendo Australia has this morning announced that New Super Mario Bros 2. will be released in Australian and New Zealand on August 18th. The game will be released both at retail but also available to digitally download from the eShop. You’ll be able to download the entire game from home or at ‘participating retail partners’ who will be announced in the future. All Nintendo 3DS games from Nintendo and eventually Wii U games will be available to digitally download this way going forward.

The release date of the game again puts Australia smack bang in the middle of the America and European release who are a day later and before respectively. Nice going.

So then who’s going to download it or are you going to pick it up ‘old school’ at retail?

[quote]Following on from all the new information released at E3 last week, Nintendo Australia can confirm New Super Mario Bros. 2 will release on the 18th August in Australia and New Zealand, exclusively for Nintendo 3DS.  New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be the first title to release in-store and digitally, providing consumers the option to either purchase the game at retail stores or download the entire game directly from Nintendo eShop and participating retail partners.

In New Super Mario Bros. 2, Bowser has once again kidnapped Princess Peach, but this time, Mario has a new objective.  The Mushroom Kingdom is bursting with more gold coins than ever before and it’s up to players to collect as many coins as possible throughout their adventure.  Every level is filled with golden opportunities, such as gold rings that turn enemies into valuable gold versions and a Gold Flower that gives Mario the ability to turn almost anything in his path into coins.  The game records all the coins players collect throughout the game, so completing a level is only part of the fun!
Also, New Super Mario Bros. 2 is an all-new side-scrolling adventure game featuring Mario and Luigi!  Two players who each own the game will have the option to play the entire game in two-player multi-player mode using local wireless.   Coin Rush Mode allows players to collect as many coins as possible and challenge friends to beat their record via StreetPass.
