Hankering for some online robot insect racing? Well you’ll have to import it now as Nintendo Australia has revealed it won’t be releasing the game on Australian shores.
Speaking to Kotaku Australia, Nintendo Australia’s managing director Rose Lappin has said “At this stage, we won’t bring Excitebots in.” And it’s not just the poor sales in the US, apparently local Wii owners (that’s you and me) didn’t want it enough.
“I know there’s a group of people who want it, but at our minimum [stock order] it’s probably too much for us to carry. I know in the US there’s a lot of that stock around,” explains Lappin.
“We’ve got to make that evaluation. We’ve got to try and support our consumers where possible, but unless we can sell the minimum we need to bring in, that makes it very difficult.”
This one however is probably not entirely Nintendo Australia’s fault, with Europe possibly not getting a release of the game Nintendo Australia would need to especially print the disks themselves and that’s probably too expensive for our still small market.
You can read about Excitebots in our import review, we thought it was great.
Please Nintendo, can the next announcement you make be about something you are releasing? Metroid Prime Trilogy anyone?
