Aussie Sales Charts (w/e July 15th) Octopath Traveler and Captain Toad make decent dent on the charts
It’s not every week we report on the charts, but when we do it’s because there’s something to talk about.
Last weeks charts (ending July 15th) was jam-packed full of Switch goodness. First up Crash Bandicoot, which wouldn’t have been all Switch but it is on it. After that the duo of Octopath Traveler and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Seeing Octopath, a game just on one system and more expensive than the one above and below it on the chart is impressive.
The fun doesn’t stop there because Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was forth and Breath of the Wild snuck into tenth. The best yard-stick out of official numbers to how well the Switch is doing to seeing those two games in the top ten. When Mario Kart 8 is up, Switch sales are up – when Zelda is there it’s even better.
- Crash Bandicoot
- Octopath Traveler
- Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Jurassic World Evolution
- Grand Theft Auto V
- God of War
- Forza Horizon 2
- Far Cry 5
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Thanks to the IGEA and NPD for the charts.
Good to see Captain Toad doing well. I can’t imagine that sales of the 3DS version would have contributed much to that though (it would be a nice surprise if it did). I happened to buy both (I couldn’t resist the 3D).
Captain Toad was one of my absolute favorite Wii U games. There just isn’t enough new content (plus they took levels out, what the??) to get me to buy it again though which is disappointing.
Really surprised Octopath is so high in the charts, I know it was hyped a bit but JRPGs are still pretty niche I thought? I have always loved them though so it’s awesome to see!
While the game totally deserves it, I’m surprised that Octopath is so high up on the list. I think good word of mouth can keep the sales going for a while too.
I think Octopath sales are also a sign that the switch has been starved of a solid AAA-ish title for awhile. Will see if the hype continues
