Aonuma takes to Miiverse to talk about Majora’s Mask 3D
Series producer Eiji Aonuma took to the Miiverse tonight to explain some details about Majora’s Mask 3D, presumably in a response to the fan bravado the board has received since it’s announcement earlier in the week.
Aonuma confirmed that the game was in development for the 3DS ever since they wrapped work on Ocarina of Time 3D, meaning the game has essentially been in development for three years or so now. A pretty long time for a remaster, we reckon.
That’s definitely worth mentioning given that since then numerous teases and tidbits have been shown by Nintendo that have hinted towards Link’s revisit to Termina for some time.
Additionally, Aonuma confirmed that the team have been working to make the gameplay experience “smoother” than the original version, but clarified that this wouldn’t take away from the game’s unique world. The aim of the gameplay adjustments, which are not yet known, will try to recapture the audience that gave up on the game mid-way through. No further details were provided.
He closes the update with a reassurance that this game would remain “scary”, which we suppose can be interpreted that it’s unique tone and atmosphere will remain intact.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D will be launching exclusively for the 3DS family of consoles sometime in March, April and May next year. A special edition is available exclusively for Australian and European players.
What do you think the team could be doing to make the experience “smoother”? Sound off in the comments!
I can’t help but feel that they will ruin the Water Temple by making it obvious where the switches are and what they trigger like they did in ooT 3DS (pipes lining the walls etc. even though MM already did that), make it more obvious you need to use Ice Arrows to reach one of the Water Temple switches (Probably have the fairy force a reminder), make the Goron race easier and better inform the player that they need a Goron Powder Keg before heading to that dead king’s temple.
All of the presumed changes that they will make are minor annoyances, but they ARE annoyances none the less (Leave the game alone dammit!) at least we’re getting the game and it will be at a decent frame rate (Remember, PAL regions got versions of the games that run at abysmal frame rates compared to the American versions of the games and this annoyance continued with the Wii and its virtual console). We PAL users are finally able to legitimately own a copy of the game that runs smoothly without importing, paying a premium or emulating the American version etc.!
