A new Zelda title for the 3DS is under way at Nintendo Japan, according to longtime series director Eiji Aonuma, who has directed all the 3D Zelda games. When asked about possibilities on the system, Aonuma said the team was looking to do something “very interesting” with the next portable title and that it would be a game where “having 3D will mean something".
When asked about how the Wii U title was coming along, Aonuma was quick to reiterate what we saw at E3 might not end up resembling the finished title. “The demo that we showed at E3 was really just more of a rough idea of if all we were to do was to take a Zelda game and put it in HD, this is what it might look like,“ said the series creator.
“We’re much more interested in looking at the power of the Wii U system and seeing how we can take advantage of that power to do things that we haven’t been able to do in a Zelda game before”. He added that a focus of Skyward Sword was to be the “first step” in the franchise’s evolution.
Additionally in our Monday Mayhem of Zelda news, we dug up an interesting nugget in the Four Sword’s classification report. It seems the 3DS port has been developed by Grezzo, who also put together Ocarina of Time 3D. Nice to know the port’s in safe hands.
