A little while back Nintendo in Japan announced that there would be an update that adds amiibo support to the game coming, now we know a little bit more about it.

Animal Crossing New Leaf will get this free upgrade later this year and if you’re yet to play New Leaf there’s also a new version available in stores called with a ‘Welcome amiibo’ subtitle.

In addition to the new upgrade to the game, there will also be a series of new Animal Crossing amiibo cards which feature characters never seen before.

There’s also a Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct coming too, there’s no date on it for the west but during Nintendo’s Japanese Direct they said it would be on November 2nd. Hopefully we might hear about the smartphone version of the game at the same time.
