amiibo support coming to Animal Crossing: New Leaf four years after release

That's some crazy support.

Animal Crossing New Leaf, remember that game? Released in 2012 when the Wii U still had a chance and amiibo were just a twinkle in the eye.

Well it’s getting an update!

The update to be released later this year will allow anyone with a New Nintendo 3DS (or the NFC reader addon) to use both amiibo cards and figures in the game. So far we know that cards will make villagers arrive in your town, what figures do hasn’t been disclosed.

It’s not just the Animal Crossing amiibo which work either, other Nintendo figures can be scanned and will unlock costumes or furniture. Whether or not new items are being added to the game or the extensive range of items already in the game will be used is unknown.
