Amiibo figures have been around for almost a year now and they’ve enjoyed a wildly variable sense of availability and scarcity. While they’re no doubt more well supplied now than they previously were this time last year, there are definitely some figures that are proving to be more popular than others in different countries.
In North America, the most popular amiibo (in order of popularity) is still Link. He’s followed by Bowser, Toon Link, Mewtwo, Sonic, Pikachu, Classic Colours 8-Bit Mario, Pac-Man, Mega Man and Gannondorf.
In Europe, things are a little bit different. The front runner is Classic Colours 8-Bit Mario; followed by Link, the Green Squid, Green Yarn Yoshi, Mario, Smash Bros. Mario, Pikachu, Inkling Boy, Toad and Inkling Girl.
In Japan things are even more different. The highest selling amiibo figure in Japan is the Inkling Girl; followed by the Green Squid, Inkling Boy, Mario, Classic Colours 8-Bit Mario, Modern Colours 8-Bit Mario, Isabelle, Kirby, Green Yarn Yoshi and Digby.
While these are just lists it’s interesting to note that none of the Splatoon figures appear in the list for North America while they almost dominate the lists for Europe and Japan.
Nintendo also announced that amiibo shipments are at 31 million units globally, with 29% (9 million) of those shipments being picked and allocated in the last quarter which is the largest increase for a quarter thus far.
