For one of the few times in history, a Nintendo console is launching again without a Mario game. For those saddened by this loss, fret not, as there is a new one on the way, and Miyamoto wants to show you as soon as possible.
In the latest edition of the Iwata Asks series, the original team of Super Mario Bros (including Miyamoto obviously) have been crammed into the Iwata Asks room of torture and been made to spill on all things Mario 3DS related. Miyamoto had this to say on a 3DS Mario game;
"So, in the interests of adopting new technology for the Super Mario Bros. tradition, I am now making a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Nintendo 3DS system. I want to show everyone as soon as possible what the new Super Mario Bros. will be like on the Nintendo 3DS."
So when is "as soon as possible"? Well, apart from being apparently "as soon as possible", it could mean E3, a random event before or even around this time next year. But you can be sure, there is a 3DS Mario game on the way.
