They mightn't be pretty, but they are very cool.
Last month, 8BitDo rolled out an update to all of its retro-styled wireless controllers to give them full compatibility with the Switch, and today it seems like they’re getting into the spirit of E3 with the announcement of two new controllers, both with full Switch compatibility.
The first is the SNES30 Pro or SFC30 Pro, a controller styled after the US SNES or Super Famicom, depending on which colour scheme you prefer. In addition to the standard SNES buttons, it features two almost full-sized analogue sticks and extra shoulder buttons, as well as home and screenshot buttons, to ensure a full range of compatibility with the Switch. On top of that, unlike previous 8BitDo controllers, the SNES30 Pro features motion controls and rumble, which means that almost everything you can do with the Pro Controller, you can do with this. It’s expected to launch in the holiday period of 2017.
The second, and perhaps more interesting of the two controllers, is the NES30 Arcade Stick, designed to be used for fighting games and other arcade-style experiences. It features a retro-style joystick and eight large face buttons, which is probably more buttons than you’d ever need. It’s unsure at this stage if the buttons are able to be rebound, but these kinds of arcade sticks usually offer some customisation so we’re keeping our fingers crossed. It’s set to launch in Q3 of 2017.
Also amongst these announcements were the TwinCube Stereo Speakers, a set of paired Bluetooth speakers, in a neon red and blue colour scheme, which are also set to launch in Q3 of 2017. These are shown off next to a Switch in the product shots, though we’re not quite sure how you’d use them with the Switch without a 3.5mm auxiliary cable, which is absent from the shots. But hey, maybe 8BitDo knows something we don’t.
